Get to Know Me

Hi, I’m Saad. I am a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, and for over 15 years, I have navigated the operational, regulatory, and commercial complexities of Pakistan’s power sector. Today, I serve as Deputy General Manager of Power Generation at OMS.

From leading performance testing on a 1,263 MW power plant to directing a PKR 4.8 billion station disposal and serving as owner’s engineer on a US$55 million combined-cycle conversion, my work is defined by a single rule: high-stakes decisions must be driven by verified evidence.

I provide plant owners, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies with a precise, unambiguous picture of asset performance. Whether I am evaluating a thermal asset, overseeing maintenance operations across four distinct power plants, or spearheading a plant-level SAP PM roll-out, my focus is ensuring that strategy is rooted strictly in data to optimize lifecycle costs and safeguard asset profitability. I keep my eyes on the broader macro energy picture—tariff structures, regulatory shifts, renewable integration, and regional grid challenges—to ensure technical operations always align with long-term commercial viability.

Beyond the energy sector, I maintain a hands-on, self-taught interest in enterprise networking, virtualization, and local AI infrastructure. This website—along with my home server architecture—is my own build. Offline, you’ll find me cycling, on the badminton court, or guest-lecturing for the next generation of engineers at university.

Areas of Expertise

Maintenance Expert

Preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance for operating fleets; major overhauls and shutdowns; reliability improvement; CMMS-driven planning (SAP PM, MS Dynamics AX); OPEX/CAPEX control.

In practice: LM6000 Level 3 and steam turbine Level B & C overhauls delivered; PKR 500M+ inventory managed; SAP PM implemented at plant level.

Mechanical Expert

Gas turbines (LM6000 Level-3 maintenance — hot-section exchange, HPC blade replacement), steam turbines (Level B & C overhauls), reciprocating gas engines, HRSGs (inspections to API 510) and balance of plant.

In practice: the machine comes first — every other discipline I practise is grounded in hands-on mechanical work.

Performance Expert

Performance and reliability testing to ASME PTC 46 / PTC 22; heat-rate and efficiency optimisation; output and guarantee verification for PPAs; tariff and regulatory work.

In practice: tests on plants up to 1,263 MW, reported to NEPRA and CPPA-G; technical lead on a six-station Multi-Year Tariff petition; parasitic-loss and efficiency improvement programmes at Omni.
